Toasted Panko Bread Crumbs
Recipe by Seth Paternostro
November 28, 2021
Like coconuts and antelopes, not all bread crumbs look the same. Some are too fine. Others are bland. But panko excites us like no other pieces of ground-up white bread can. With those craggy edges, a little fat is not only hot. It makes them toasty.
Makes ½ cup
Total time
10 minutes
Equipment:
sauté pan, stirring spoon, small mixing bowl
Tableware:
spoon
Ingredients
½ cup panko bread crumbs
1 tbsp unsalted butter
1 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
¼ tsp black pepper
Salt, as needed
Instructions
Set out all equipment and ingredients.
Heat the pan over low heat.
Melt the butter in a small mixing bowl in the microwave, add the olive oil, and thoroughly combine with the panko bread crumbs, black pepper, and a pinch of salt.
Pour the bread crumbs into the pan, and stir until toasted and golden brown.
Remove from the heat, and pour the mixture back into the mixing bowl to prevent further cooking.
Reserve until needed.
